Upper Assam landscape — the lush Brahmaputra valley where Eri silk originates

Eri moth lifecycle

28 days

From egg to open cocoon. The moth emerges. The silk is gathered. Nothing ends.

From the castor groves of Upper Assam

The Eri silkworm has fed on castor leaves in Assam for over two thousand years. Unlike mulberry silk, the Eri cocoon is open at one end — the moth walks free. We simply gather what remains.

Each shawl, stole, and garment we make is a direct collaboration between the silkworm, the moth, the weaver, and you. Nothing is wasted. Everything is intentional.

How it's made

The Eri journey

Castor Cultivation

Families in Titabor and Sibsagar cultivate castor plants. The Eri silkworm feeds freely, spinning its open-ended cocoon in its own time.

Open Cocoon Harvest

When the moth emerges, the empty cocoon is hand-gathered. No boiling. No harm. The fibre is spun by hand on traditional spindles.

Turmeric Indigo Marigold

Natural Dyeing

Colour comes from the earth — indigo, turmeric, marigold, lac. Each dye bath is a seasonal act, giving each piece a living palette.

Handloom Weaving

Master weavers work their pit looms, threading each warp by hand. A single shawl takes three to five days. Every centimetre is deliberate.

Founder

Ankita Borah

“I grew up watching my grandmother weave. I wanted the world to see what she saw — that slowness is not a flaw. It is the whole point.”

Ankita Borah founded Erizon in 2018 after years in sustainable textile research. She works directly with 34 weaving families across four districts of Assam, ensuring fair wages, full transparency, and a living craft tradition.

Every collection is designed in Jorhat and woven within a 60km radius. No outsourcing. No shortcuts.
